If you are a paid member of the Kingston Photographic Club (KPC), it is time to start choosing your photo submissions for the Annual Juried Exhibition. This public presentation gives us an opportunity to showcase some of our finest work.
- Please note: As the club may experience some unexpected expenses, each participant will be asked to pay a $15.00 entry fee.
- Each paid member wishing to partake may submit (3) prints as specified by the Selection Submission Guidelines (see A below). The prints, the entry fee and the Submission entry form must handed in at the announced date in February. Should accommodations to this date be required, please contact kingstonphotographicclub@gmail.com .
- A panel of three judges will review all entries and choose the images to be displayed. This is not a competition per se.. Remembering that works must meet exhibition standards, the impartial jurors will identify your best work and every effort will be made to include one (1) image from each participant in the show.
- Submissions will be returned, with the selection included, at an announced date and location in late February/early March.
Your selected image can then be prepared for exhibit as specified by the Exhibition Submission Guidelines (see B below).
Note: Camera Kingston and Frameworks would appreciate all printing and framing to be in prior to April 12th.
- Please deliver your framed exhibition print to Frameworks on April 26th between
2:00-4:00 p.m.
- The exhibit will be installed on Sunday April 27th between 12-4:00 p.m. and accessible for viewing on Saturday May 3rd.
- There will be an Opening Reception with refreshments on Saturday May 3rd from 5-8:30 p.m. Please save this date and invite your friends, family, and colleagues to attend this special event.
- The Exhibition will remain on display through Saturday May 31st.
- At the show’s end, please pick up your work from FRAMEWORKS on Saturday May 31st from 2-4 p.m.
A price list will be available during the Exhibition for those who wish to have their work on sale.
Should you have any questions regarding the show, please contact Heather Jamison (Exhibition Coordinator) through the club website kingstonphotographicclub@gmail.com .
- SELECTION SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
These submissions are for jurying purposes and need only be of sufficient size and quality for the jurors to assess their merit. The images selected for the show can then be sized and printed in a manner suitable for public display.
• Images previously submitted for inclusion in this exhibition are not eligible.
• Images must be in print form (colour or black & white). The shortest image dimension must be at least 8”g. 8” x 10” acceptable; 7” x 10” unacceptable.
• Prints should be secured to cardstock backing (e.g. matt board or cardboard – ideally white or off-white and larger than the print) for ease in handling by the jurors. To adhere the print to its cardstock: a) Place a small tab of double-sided tape behind each top corner of the print, align the print on its cardstock and press it home. (Warning: later removal of the print from its cardstock may be difficult and could damage the print) or b) Use masking tape (safe and removable in the short term) or an archival tape. Either apply a loop of tape to the back of the photo at each top corner and press the photo home, or prepare T hinges by applying a length of tape to the back of the photo near each top corner so the tape extends beyond the print edge, then, aligning the print on its cardstock, use second pieces of tape to secure the tape extensions to the cardstock.
• Over-matting and protective clear covering are optional. But if you do wish to protect the photo surface, overlay it with clear acetate, enclose it in a cellophane sleeve, or wrap it in clear plastic (e.g. from a dry-cleaning bag).
• Member’s name and image title must be placed on the back of the card stock in its top right hand corner.
• Images should not be framed.
• Three (3) prints must be submitted per participating member.
• Include a completed Submission Entry Form (available as a download from the KPC website – see below) with your prints. If your works are for sale, enter the amounts.
- SELECTION SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Our Annual Juried Exhibition is a popular and much anticipated Kingston event and exposes us to discerning public scrutiny. The reputations of the club and its individual presenters are on the line. So please maintain reasonably high standards when printing and framing your work. Traditionally, exhibition prints are displayed under glass, matted and framed. Acceptable alternatives would be plaque mounting, canvas wraps, and Plexiglas or aluminum mounting. The shortest image dimension must be at least 8”, e.g. 8” x 10”, 8” x 20”.
• The overall size of the framed photo must not exceed 520 square inches, e.g. 14”x20” image with a 3” mat; a 24”x8” image with a 4” mat; a 20”x26” laminated image.
• Member’s name and image title must be recorded on the back of the framed photo.
• The show will be installed using standard picture hooks and wire. Therefore, photos must be framed sturdily and be adaptable to this kind of installation. Local framing stores have been informed of this expectation, however, a reminder to them would help.
